PREVIEW: Holmes will face Southwest in Region XXIII Tournament Wednesday

GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs will go into the Region XXIII Tournament as the No. 10 seed and will face the No. 7 seed Southwest Mississippi Community College Lady Bears on Wednesday night in Summit.

Holmes finished the regular season at 6-9 overall and 6-8 in the North Division while Southwest finished the regular season 8-4 overall and 8-4 in the South Division. The winner of the game will face the winner of No. 2 seed Coahoma and No. 15 Baton Rouge.

Holmes is led in scoring by sophomore guard Gabrielle Bunch, who is averaging 13.5 points per game. Sophomore guard Jordyn Manning is averaging 11.7 points per game while sophomore guard Morgan Williams is averaging 9.5 points per game and sophomore forward Jalaceia Smith is averaging 9.2 points per game. As a team, the Lady Bulldogs are averaging 62.3 points per game and are shooting 37.5 percent from the floor, 25.6 percent from three-point range and 64.6 percent from the free-throw line.

Holmes is giving up 66.6 points per game.

Southwest is led in scoring by sophomore Shylia McGee, who is averaging 15.3 points per game while sophomore guard Mikayla Etienne is averaging 14.3 points per game and sophomore guard Sydni Tangle is averaging 10.9 points per game. As a team, Southwest is averaging 66.2 points per game and is shooting 39.4 percent from the floor, 29.1 percent from the three-point line and 61.9 percent from the free-throw line.

Southwest is giving up 59 points per game.
