Bulldogs get 53-14 win over Coahoma to open division play

CLARKSDALE --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs moved to 1-0 in the North Division here Thursday night with a 53-14 win over the Coahoma Community College Tigers.

The Bulldogs on the scoreboard first in the first quarter when Chase Richardson found B.J. Johnson from 20 yards out. Dan Lindsay's extra point was no good, and Holmes led 6-0 with 9:37 left in the quarter.

The Tigers took the lead with 5:55 left in the quarter and a score and PAT.

The Bulldogs took the lead for good with 4:08 left in the first when Jeremy Atkins recovered a Coahoma fumble in the endzone for a touchdown. Lindsay's extra point was good, and Holmes led 13-7.

Holmes went up 19-7 with 37 seconds left in the first when Cam Joseph caught a Richardson pass and raced in from 13 yards out. Lindsay's PAT was no good.

The Bulldogs scored again 22 seconds later when Nicholas Kilpatrick intercepted a Tiger pass and raced in from 27 yards out. The extra point was no good, and Holmes led 25-7.

Holmes scored with 1:45 left in the second when J.J. Harrell ran it in from four yards out. Colston Bennett's extra point was good, and Holmes led 32-7 at halftime.

The lead increased to 39-7 with 13:34 left in the third when Richardson found Johnson again, this time from 32 yards out. Bennett's extra point was good.

The Bulldogs added another score with 8 minutes left in the third when Richardson found DeCorey Knight on a 56-yard pass. Bennett's extra point was good, and Holmes led 46-7.

The final score of the night came when Cole McCarty connected with Jamarius Grayer from nine yards out. Bennett's extra point was good.

Coahoma scored with 11 minutes to play to make the final score, 53-14.

The Bulldogs amassed over 500 yards of total offense. Richardson was 18-of-29 for 252 yards and four touchdowns while McCarty was 5-of-6 for 52 yards and one touchdown. Knight had two catches for 64 yards while Johnson had two catches for 53 yards and Joseph had four catches for 46 yards.
