Bulldogs remain undefeated with a 35-22 win over Jones

GOODMAN --- The No. 11 Holmes Community College Bulldogs picked up a 35-22 MACCC non-division win here over No. 7 Jones College to move to 5-0 on the season.

Holmes will return to North Division action on Oct. 10 in Goodman vs. Mississippi Delta at 6:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard with 7:26 left in the first when Chase Richardson connected with Malcolm Boykin from 10 yards. Dan Lindsay's extra point put Holmes up 7-0.

Holmes then got another huge break less than a minute later when Kabron Purifoy intercepted a pass at the Jones six yard line. After an incomplete pass, Richardson scampered in from six yards out for the score. Lindsay's kick put Holmes up 14-0 with 6:26 left in the first.

Jones answered the score with 2:12 to play in the first to make it 14-7. The Bobcats then tied the game at 14 in the second quarter with 7:59 left.

Holmes' E.J. Segrest then made a huge play later in the second when he intercepted a pass and returned it some 53 yards to the Jones 25. Richardson then connected with K.J. Miller a few plays later for a 29-yard touchdown. Lindsay's kick put Holmes up 21-14 with 6:09 left before half.

Jones fumbled on their next possession, and Octavious Pernell recovered at the Holmes 22.

Deandre Pullen put the Bulldogs 28-14 after he broke free on a 44-yard run with 3:53 to play in the second. Lindsay's kick was good.

Jones added a field goal just before halftime, and Holmes led 28-17 at the break.

The Bobcats turned the ball over on their first possession of the second half as Christavious Savior intercepted the ball and returned it 24 yards to the Jones five yard line. Rayshawn Hardy scored from there to make it 35-17 with 14:01 left in the third after Lindsay's extra point.

Jones kicked a field goal on their next possession to make it 35-20 with 8:25 left in third. The final two points for the Bobcats came with 44 seconds to play in the third as they picked up a safety.

Jalon Townes led the Bulldogs with 10 tackles in the game while Bishop Riley, P.J. Pace and Dtrevion Parker each had nine. Pernell and Savior each had eight tackles.
