Avant, Samonski sign with four-year schools
RIDGELAND, Miss. – On Dec. 8, Holmes Community College Lady Bulldog soccer sophomores Kaylee Avant and Brooklynn Samonski signed to continue their collegiate careers at four-year universities. Avant is set to join Mississippi College, while Samonski will head to the University of South Alabama.
Avant, a sophomore midfielder from Newton County and the daughter of Josh and Lacey Avant, and Samonski, a sophomore midfielder from Nottingham, New Jersey, and the daughter of Shawn and Rose Samonski, were key contributors to the Lady Bulldogs' success over the past two seasons.
Player Honors and Tournament Run
Both players earned recognition for their standout play during the 2025 season with selections to the All-MACCC team. Avant was named to the First Team, which placed her into consideration for the NJCAA All-Region team, while Samonski received an Honorable Mention.
Avant finished among the Lady Bulldogs' leading scorers heading into the NJCAA semifinals with six goals, four assists, and 16 points. Her clutch play was highlighted by scoring the only goal in the 11th minute of the 1-0 victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in the NJCAA tournament. Samonski also contributed offensively during the season, scoring a goal in the 60th minute of a 3-0 win over Hinds Community College. She also helped the Lady Bulldogs secure a 4-0 win over the East Mississippi Community College Lady Lions by assisting Raven Pernell on the opening goal just one minute into the first half.
The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs finished the 2025 season with an impressive 17-3 record and a MACCC championship. Their season included a run in the NJCAA Division II Women's National Soccer Tournament, where they competed in their fifth semifinals in the last six national tournaments. Their run came to a close in Wichita, Kansas, on Nov. 20 after a hard-fought 2-1 loss to Heartland, Ill. The Lady Bulldogs advanced to the semifinals after defeating Rock Valley 3-0 and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College 1-0.
