Holmes to face off against Jones in Region 23 Tournament
RIDGELAND --- The No. 2 ranked Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs will play No. 7 Jones College in the Region 23/Gulf South District semi-finals on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Holmes comes into the match 15-1 overall and won their fifth MACCC championship in the last five of seven years. Jones is 11-4-2 overall. Holmes defeated Jones in Ellisville, 2-1, on Oct. 10. Northwest will face Gulf Coast in the other semifinal at 4:30 p.m. The winner of the tournament will have an automatic berth in the NJCAA National Tournament in Wichita, Kansas.
Leading scorers for the Lady Bulldogs include: Tyler Grace Sims (NW Rankin), six goals, seven assists, 19 points; Mallory Sutton (Saint Amant, La.), seven goals, five assists, 19 points; Kate Gray Nesbit (NW Rankin), seven goals, two assists, 16 points; Kaylee Avant (Newton County), five goals, four assists, 14 points; Maddie Caldwell (Jackson Prep), six goals, two assists, 14 points; and Emma Korhonen (Foley, Ala.), three goals, six assists, 12 points. The Lady Bulldogs are scoring 3.06 goals per match and are giving up less than one goal per match.
Aly Vancor (NW Rankin) and Lilly Callum (Madison Central) have split time in goal. Vancor has 675 minutes in goal, 18 saves and three goals against. Callum has 720 minutes in goal, five goals against and 41 saves.
Leading scorers for the Bobcats include: Sherline King (Instituto Nacional de Panama), 23 goals, seven assists, 53 points; Magdalena Polrolniczak (SMS Junior Wroclaw), four goals, three assists, 11 points; Jameyah Hubbard (Tupelo), three goals, four assists, 10 points; and Nadia Sobel (SMS Junior Wroclaw), four goals, two assists, 10 points. The Bobcats are scoring 2.71 goals per match and giving up 1.35 goals per match.
Jennifer Huerzeler (BWZ Rapperswil) has played 1170 minutes in goal and has given up 15 goals and has 61 saves. Sara Kate Jefcoat (West Jones) has played 360 minutes in goal and has given up eight goals and has 10 saves.
