Lady Bulldogs to face Phoenix, Schoolcraft in NJCAA Nationals Pool Play

RIDGELAND --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs will play in Pool D of the 2024 NJCAA Women's Division II National Tournament in Huntsville, Ala. on Sunday and Monday vs. Phoenix and Schoolcraft.

Holmes, now 15-4-2 on the season, is the 5th seed and they will play Phoenix, now 16-1-1, and the 4th seed on Sunday at 5:45 p.m. They then will play Schoolcraft, now 10-2-2, and the 9th seed on Monday at 5:45 p.m. Holmes finished 5th in the final NJCAA poll while Phoenix was 4th and Schoolcraft was 7th.

Phoenix had the automatic bid out of the West while Holmes and Schoolcraft got at large bids to the tournament. The winners of Pools A-D will play in the semifinals on Thursday with the finals on Saturday.

Leaders for the Lady Bulldogs include: Kristen Phillips (West Lauderdale) with 53 points (21 goals, 11 assists), Bailee Fairley (West Lauderdale) with 39 points (15 goals, nine assists), Olivia Tribolet (Madison Central) with 21 points (eight goals, five assists), Kaylee Avant (Newton County) with 19 points (seven goals, five assists) and Brooklynn Samonski (Nottingham, N.J.) with 17 points (seven goals, three assists).

Addi Roberts (Jackson Academy) and Katie Smith (Clarkdale) split time in goal for the Lady Bulldogs. Roberts finished with 49 saves while Smith had 33.

Holmes scores 4.05 goals per match and gives up one goal per match.

Leaders for Phoenix include: Giselle German (Avondale, AZ) with 69 points (29 goals and 11 assists), Carmen Coronado (Glendale, AZ) with 52 points (22 goals and eight assists), Chloe Corral (Goodyear, AZ) with 36 points (14 goals and eight assists), Renada Manrique (Phoenix, AZ) with four goals and 18 assists), Ariany Mapula (Phoenix, AZ) with 19 points (eights goals and three assists) and Irais Tapia (Phoenix, AZ) with 19 points (seven goals and five assists).

Irma Palominos played goal and gave up seven goals and had 40 saves on the season.

Phoenix scores 5.5 goals per match and gives up less than a goal per match.

Leaders for Schoolcraft include: Jessica Clyde (Ann Arbor, MI) with 48 points (18 goals and 12 assists), Daniela Alvarez (Wyandotte, MI) with 40 points (15 goals and 10 assists), Brynn Riley (Plymouth, MI) with 22 points (nine goals and four assists), Victoria Kebbe (Anchor Bay, MI) with 19 points (six goals and seven assists) and Ashley Hughes (Milford, MI) with 17 points (three goals and 11 assists).

Ava Martin (Northville, MI) and Kate Shippe (Livonia, MI) both saw time in goal. Shippe had 39 saves and Martin had six. Shippe gave up 16 goals and Martin gave up three.

Schoolcraft scores 4.86 goals per match and gives up 1.35 goals per match.
