No. 5 seed Holmes to face No. 4 seed Pima in NJCAA pool play today
WICHITA, Kansas --- The No. 5 seed Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs face the No. 4 seed Pima Community College Aztecs in the 2021 NJCAA Women's Division II National Tournament pool play at 6:30 p.m. here today.
The Lady Bulldogs come into the match 14-2-2 overall and the MACCC/Region 23 runners-up while the Aztecs come into the match 15-4 overall and were the West District champion and Region 1 champion. Holmes is the at-large team from the Gulf South/South Atlantic district. In the NJCAA's final regular season poll, Holmes ended up No. 3 while Pima was No. 6.
Holmes is led by sophomore forward Ravynne Wilson of Meridian with 15 goals and seven assists on the season. Other leaders include: freshman forward McKinney of Flowood with seven goals and seven assists; freshman forward Sydney Nester of Walker, La. with five goals and four assists; sophomore forward Kaci Craft of Clinton with five goals and two assists; freshman forward Katelin Johnson of Oxford with four goals and four assists and freshman forward Darian Blackburn of Vestavia Hills, Ala. with four goals and one assist.
Pima is led by freshman midfielder/forward Mari Acosta of Sahuarita, Ariz. with 10 goals and two assists. Other leaders include: freshman midfielder/forward Delaney Buntin of Vail, Ariz. with nine goals and one assist; sophomore midfielder Alyssa Kopach of Tucson, Ariz. with six goals and four assists; sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Bassett of Tucson, Ariz. with five goals and six assists; and sophomore midfielder Seti Valencia of Tucson, Ariz. with five goals and five assists.
The Lady Bulldogs have taken 404 shots on the season with 61 goals scored and 52 assists. Holmes' goalkeepers Layken Stockstill of Vicksburg and Avery Belden of Brandon have given up 17 goals and have 71 saves.
The Aztecs have taken 203 shots on the season with 53 goals scored and 40 assists. Pima's sophomore goalkeeper Angelina Amparano of Tucson, Ariz. has given up 14 goals and has 109 saves.
