RIDGELAND --- The No. 3 ranked Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs hope of making it three straight MACCC/Region 23 titles came up short today as the Lady Bulldogs fell 2-1 in the championship game to No. 2 Jones College.
With the loss, the Lady Bulldogs fell to 13-2-2 on the season. They now await word on whether or not they'll make it to their second straight NJCAA Division II National Tournament. This year's tournament is being held at the Stryker Complex in Wichita, Kansas. Holmes had won 2019 and 2020 championships previously with the 2020 title coming in late spring/early summer of 2021.
Jones took a 1-0 lead in the 45th minute of match on a header from Kendyl Terrell, and the Bobcats led 1-0 at halftime.
The Lady Bulldogs answered the goal in the 73rd minute on a blast from Olivia Deslatte to tie the match at one.
Jones scored in the final minute on a shot from Delaney Cooley to give the Bobcats the 2-1 win.
