RIDGELAND --- Holmes Community College freshman forward Sydney Nester of Walker, La. scored two goals today to send the Lady Bulldogs to tomorrow's 2021 MACCC/Region 23 Championship Game tomorrow at noon on the Ridgeland Campus.
With the win, the No. 3 ranked Lady Bulldogs improved to 13-1-2 overall and will face the No. 2 ranked Jones Bobcats. Jones, 13-1, knocked off Northwest in the other semifinal match, 6-0. The two teams did not meet during the regular season. Holmes will be defending their MACCC/Region 23 title and will playing for their third straight MACCC/Region 23 Championship.
Neither team was able to score in the first half as the Lady Bulldogs had several shots go off the crossbar in the first half.
Pearl River took a 1-0 lead in the 65th minute on a goal from Aubrie Edwards.
The Lady Bulldogs wasted no time answering the goal after Holmes was awarded a penalty kick in the 65th minute of the match. Sydney Nester answered the call and blasted one past the Pearl River goalkeeper to tie the match.
Neither team could score the remaining 25 minutes of the match, and it headed to overtime.
The Lady Bulldogs won the contest three minutes into overtime as Nester's ball found the back of the net giving Holmes the win.
