PREVIEW: NJCAA DII Women's Soccer National Championship

EVANS, Ga. --- The No. 2 seeded Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs will take on the No. 1 seeded Phoenix, Ariz. Bears at 7 p.m. eastern/6 p.m. central here Wednesday in the NJCAA Division II Women's Soccer National Championship game.

Holmes comes into the semifinals with a 15-0-1 record while Phoenix is 13-0. Holmes defeated Allen County, 2-1, and St. Louis, 4-0, in pool play and Heartland in yesterday's semifinal in 2OTs, 2-1 while Phoenix defeated Muskegon, Mich. 1-0, and Waubonsee, Ill. 3-2 in 2OTs and Jones in yesterday's semifinal, 2-0.

Against Allen, Cariel Ellis had one goal and one assist while Laney Smith added one goal and Mia Aviles had an assist. In the match versus St. Louis, Ellis had two goals while Jordan Patrick and Ravynne Wilson added the other goals. Wilson, Kaci Craft, Mackenzie Thompson and Olivia Deslatte had assists in the match. In yesterday's semifinal, Ellis added two goals while Wilson added an assist.

Against Muskegon, Zalma Torres scored the only goal. Against Waubonsee, Torres, Kiana Miyazato and Anacel Valenzeula-Acosta had goals while Daizy Arredondo added an assist. In the semifinal match vs. Jones, Valenzeuela-Acosta and Arredondo had goals with Giselle Gonzalez and Miyazato adding assists.

Leading goal scorers for the Lady Bulldogs include: Ellis, 16 goals and eight assists; Wilson, 14 goals and four assists; Craft, six goals and three assists; Megan Richardson and Laney Smith, five goals and three assists; and Olivia Deslatte, four goals and six assists.

For Phoenix, Torres has 10 goals and 10 assists while Miyazato has nine goals and four assists, Valenzeula-Acosta has eight goals and six assists and Daisy Meza has nine goals and one assist.
