No. 2 Holmes to face Gulf Coast in MACCC/Region XXIII semifinals Saturday
RIDGELAND --- The No. 2 ranked Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs will head into the MACCC/Region XXIII semifinals as the North No. 1 seed and will face the South No. 2 seeded Mississippi Gulf Coast College Lady Bulldogs on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Perkinston at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
The Lady Bulldogs finished the regular season 10-0-1 overall and 7-0-1 in the North. The Lady Bulldogs are defending MACCC/Region XXIII champions and have won the North Division title five straight times. Gulf Coast is 8-4-2 overall and finished 6-2-2 in the South Division.
Leaders offensively for the Lady Bulldogs include: Cariel Ellis, sophomore forward from Madison, 10 goals and six assists; Ravynne Wilson, sophomore forward from Meridian, 11 goals and two assists; Kaci Craft, freshman forward from Clinton, six goals and two assists; Megan Richardson, freshman midfielder/forward from Madison, five goals and three assists; Jordan Patrick, freshman midfielder from Florence, three goals and one assist; Laney Smith, sophomore forward from Vicksburg, three goals and three assists; Mackenzie Thompson, sophomore midfielder from Pelahatchie, one goal and eight assists; and Olivia Deslatte, freshman midfielder from Madison, two goals and four assists. The Lady Bulldogs are averaging 4.09 goals per match and have scored 45 goals. The Lady Bulldogs take 27.5 shots per game.
Sophomore goalkeeper Carly Williams from Flowood is 9-0-1 on the season. She has played 595 minutes in net and has 25 saves and has given up four goals.
Leaders offensively for Gulf Coast include: Alyssa Palisi, freshman forward from Diamondhead, 11 goals and four assists; Katie Brown, freshman midfielder from Picayune, eight goals and nine assists; Leah Bennett, freshman midfielder from Cape Town, South Africa, four goals and two assists; Ashley Preston, sophomore forward from Wiggins, four goals; Hannah Salter, freshman forward from Olive Branch, four goals and five assists; and Ashley Preston, sophomore forward from Wiggins, four goals. Gulf Coast is averaging 2.64 goals per match and has scored 37 goals. Gulf Coast takes 3.7 shots per game.
Sophomore goalkeeper Skyler Steede of Lucedale is 6-3-2 on the season. She has played 995 minutes in net and has 53 saves and has given up nine goals.
