Women's match ends in tie in All-Star game; North men win 2-1
RIDGELAND --- The North Division and South Division tied here Saturday in the 2014 MACJC Women's All-Star Game 1-1 while the North Division claimed the North men defeated the South 2-1 on the men's side.
In the women's match, Morgan Saucier of Pearl River got the South Division on the scoreboard in the second minute of the match. East Central's Ashlan Culberson tied the match in the 57th minute off an assist from Hinds' Maddie Edmonson. The match ended in a tie.
In the men's match, the North jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Anthony Fernandez of Itawamba Community College scored in the 27th minute on a penalty kick. The North increased the lead in the 35th minute when Tyler Cook scored off a header to put the North up 2-0. The South's only goal came in the last minute of the match when Mitchell Cecatiello of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College scored for the South.
Saucier was named the South Division Most Valuable Player while Mara Baker of Holmes Community College claimed the MVP of the North Division.
Dylan Howard of Itawamba was named the North Division Most Valuable Player while Nick Bracey of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College claimed the MVP of the South Division.
The games were sponsored by Holmes Community College, the Mississippi Army National Guard and Mississippi Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Center.
