Lady Bulldogs open Region 23 play on Thursday in Perkinston
GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs will go into the Region 23 Tournament as the No. 10 seed and will face No. 7 seed Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on Thursday in Perkinston.
Holmes finished the regular season at 13-16 overall and 6-8 in the MACCC while Gulf Coast finished 13-13 overall and 7-7 in the MACCC. The winner of the game will face No. 2 seed Itawamba on Monday in Fulton. Pearl River is the host for the Women's Tournament semifinals and finals on March 14-15.
Other teams participating (with seeding) include: No. 1 Pearl River, No. 3 Coahoma, No. 4 Northeast, No. 5 Delta, No. 6 Southwest, No. 8 Meridian, No. 9 LSUE, No. 11 Northwest and No. 12 East Mississippi. Meridian will play LSUE, Delta will play East Mississippi and Southwest will play Northwest. Pearl River will play the Meridian/LSUE winner, Northeast will play the Delta/East winner and Coahoma will play the Southwest/Northwest winner.
Holmes is led in scoring by Bella Roberts, who is averaging 12.4 points per game. Nevaeh Craft averages 9.2 points per game while Kiara Shelly averages 8.7 points per game. Shelly averages 5.4 rebounds per game while Amanda Walker brings in 4.6 and Roberts brings in 4.1 rebounds per game.
As a team, the Lady Bulldogs are averaging 65.6 points per game and are shooting 39.7 percent from the floor, 25 percent from three-point range and 62.1 percent from the free-throw line.
Holmes is giving up 68.2 points per game.
Gulf Coast is led in scoring by Taelar Felton, who is averaging 14.1 points per game. Dekyra Mitchell is averaging 13.9 points per game. Katelyn Brinkley is averaging 10 points per game. Brinkley brings in 6.9 rebounds per game.
