Lady Bulldogs open the season on Nov. 1 vs. Co-Lin in Goodman

GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs are less than a week from tipping off the 2018-19 season in their opener with Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Goodman.

The Lady Bulldogs, who finished 2017-18 with an 18-9 overall record, were North Division Champions after finishing with a 9-3 record division record. They also advanced to the semi-finals of both the MACJC and Region XXIII Tournaments. This year's team has five returning players from last year's North Division Champion team.

Returning sophomore players include: Ja'Breonia Veasey, 5'6 guard, Little Rock, Ark.; MiKayla Patton, 6' center, Florence; Myeisha Robinson, 5'6 guard, Grenada; Christiana Harris, 5'6 guard, Grenada; and Janae Collier, 5'8 guard/forward, Pelahatchie.

Veasey averaged 12.4 minutes, 5.4 points and two rebounds per game and shot 33.6 percent from the floor. Patton, who was injured in the season opener, had two points and one rebound on the season while Robinson averaged 5.6 minutes per game and Harris averaged 6.6 minutes per game. Collier was injured in the preseason and didn't log any minutes during the season.

Sophomore newcomers include: Jekalen Jones, 5'10 guard/forward, Little Rock, Ark.; and Koryana Johnson, guard, Forest. Jones played at Grambling University before transferring to Holmes during the spring semester.

Freshman newcomers include: LyTia Flowers, 5'9 guard/forward, Olive Branch; Brysa Maxwell, 5'9 guard/forward, Ackerman; T'Onna Sims, 5'6 guard, Vicksburg; Marlaysha Beamon, 6'1 forward/center, Canton; and Destiny Jackson, 5'7 guard/forward, Greenwood.

The Lady Bulldogs' division schedule includes: East Mississippi, home, Jan. 10; Mississippi Delta, away, Jan. 14; Coahoma, home, Jan. 17; Northeast, away, Jan. 22; Northwest, away, Jan. 24; Itawamba, home, Jan. 28; East Mississippi, away, Feb. 4; Mississippi Delta, home, Feb. 7; Coahoma, away, Feb, 11; Northeast, home, Feb, 14; Northwest, home, Feb. 18; Itawamba, away, Feb, 21.

The Lady Bulldog's non-division schedule includes: Copiah-Lincoln, home, Nov. 1; Jones College, home, Nov. 8; Hinds, home, Nov. 12; Baton Rouge, La., away, Nov. 16; LSU-Eunice, away, Nov. 17; Southwest Tenn., away, Nov. 27; Baton Rouge, home, Nov. 29; Southern University Tech, home, Dec. 1; Hinds, away, Dec. 6; Delgado, home, Jan. 5; and LSU-Eunice, home, Jan. 8.

Head Coach Jamilah Andrews is in her 7th season as head coach and 11th year at Holmes while Assistant Coach and Holmes alumna and former Lady Bulldog Amber Clay is in her 1st season at Holmes as assistant coach.
