Former Head Coach Bennie Kimble to be inducted to Mississippi Community College Sports Hall of Fame on April 23
Former Holmes Community College Head Men's Basketball Coach Bennie Kimble, who roamed the Bulldog sidelines for 27 years, will be inducted into the Mississippi Community College Sports Hall of Fame on April 23 at Muse Center on Hinds Community College's Rankin Campus.
Following several successful years as a high school coach at Loyd Star, McComb, and Ferriday, Louisiana; Bennie Kimble was honored to serve Holmes Community College as Head Basketball Coach for 27 years. His career included coaching basketball, football, baseball, track, and tennis; winning state titles in basketball, track, and tennis. During his tenure at Holmes his teams amassed 23 winning seasons, with many players continuing their athletic careers at the senior college level.
Kimble, a strong supporter of junior and community college athletics, worked diligently to help establish Region 23 and served as its first director. He was also instrumental in the organization of the MCJC All Star Basketball Game and advocated tirelessly for the establishment of the MCJC Sports Hall of Fame.
After successful stints as a player a Loyd Star High School and Copiah-Lincoln Community College, Kimble set several scoring records as a member of the Southeastern Louisiana University basketball team and was the first player at the University to receive Honorable Mention All American. He continued playing basketball while serving in the U.S. Army in Germany and was invited to participate in the World Games. It was his honor to be inducted into the Copiah- Lincoln Community College Sports Hall of Fame in 1996, the Holmes Community College Sports Hall of Fame in 2007, and to be chosen as the Mississippi Association of Community/Junior Colleges (MACJC) Coach of the Year in 1995.
Bennie and his wife, Jo, have two children, Jennifer Ward, and Todd Kimble and are the proud grandparents of Alli, Bree, Haley, Dylan, Tori, and Sidney.
