Bio
Coach Raymond Gross is set to begin his second year as Head Coach of the Bulldogs. The 2021 season is Gross’ eighth at Holmes.
Prior to being named head coach, he served as co-offensive coordinator and an offensive assistant for the Bulldogs working with the quarterbacks and B-backs coach for one of the top offenses in all of junior college football.
The 2019 Bulldogs led the NJCAA in rushing yards per game with a 312.4 per game average. The Bulldogs were ranked No. 2 in total rushing yards with 2,812, No. 3 in yards per carry (6.3 yards per carry) and No. 5 in rushing touchdowns (30).
The 2018 offense was the No. 3 nationally-ranked team in rushing with 261.1 yards per game. The Bulldogs in 2017 led the country in rushing yards per game at 368.3 yards per game and 446.4 total yards per game. The Bulldogs have been the No. 1 ranked MACJC rushing team for the last five consecutive years.
The four-year letterman at Georgia Southern led the Eagles to back-to-back national championships.
Gross earned the letters from 1987-1990 and won the National Championships during the 1989 and 1990 seasons.
At Georgia Southern, he posted a career record of 44-8 as a starter and held the school record for rushing attempts in a season at 695.
After his playing days, he ranked in the top five in season rushing attempts (194 in 1988) and career yardage (2,290). He rushed for 100 or more yards on 11 occasions including a career-best 173 against Maine during the 1987 NCAA playoffs.
He was also near the top in every passing category with his best season in the air coming in 1990 when he was 108-of-109 for 1,534 yards and six touchdowns. He ended his career second in completions (265), attempts (507), yards (3,806) and touchdowns (18) and tossed just two interceptions. He passed for 200+ yards three times with his biggest day coming against Eastern Kentucky in 1990 as he threw for 246 yards. He finished 14th nationally in passing efficiency as a senior (132.94 rating).
The Eagles were ranked in the top in offensive production his junior year with the following ranks: rushing offense (first), scoring offense (second) and total offense (12th) during his junior campaign. After Georgia Southern, he played professionally in Italy following his collegiate career.
Gross holds a bachelor’s degree in commerical recreation from Georgia Southern and a master’s degree in education from Cambridge College.

He attended the Bradwell Institute High School in Hinesville, Ga. Gross has one son, Adam “A.J.”
