Bio

Coach Lane Powell is in his first season at Holmes Community College as linebackers coach. He comes to HCC from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in Miami, Oklahoma.
 
During his two seasons as Defensive Line coach at NEO, Powell’s players have been consistently at the top of SWJCAA and NJCAA rankings, including six All-Conference and one All-American. Additionally, 10 out of 12 of his outgoing defensive linemen in the past two years have gone to the D-1 level.
 
Prior to NEO, Coach Powell was at Alcorn State University where he coached the tight ends. In 2014 season, the Braves won the SWAC Championship and was crowned HBCU National Champions. 
In 2011 and 2012, Powell served as the defensive coordinator at Edward Waters College.
 
A 1989 graduate of Missouri State University, Powell played wide receiver and coached three years with the Bears. Along with head coach Jesse Branch, Powell played an intricate part in the Bears winning two Gateway Conference championships. 
 
After the 1991 season, Powell left Missouri State and embarked on a twenty year football journey that includes thirteen championships. Powell worked with wide receivers/tight ends at Northwestern State; outside linebackers at Southeast Missouri State; defensive line at Austin Peay State; outside linebackers at McNeese State; defensive line/running backs at Alabama State; and defensive line/linebackers at Millsaps.
 
He also has spent some time in the CFL with the Edmonton Eskimos and the Montreal Alouettes.
 
Powell has a Bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education from Missouri State University. Although he is a native of Indiana, Powell calls Clinton home.
