Bulldogs fall in season finale to Lions
SCOOBA --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs battled here Thursday to a tie early in the fourth quarter with the East Mississippi Community College Lions in the final game of the season but couldn't pull out the win as the Lions won, 50-39.
Holmes ended the season at 3-6.
The Lions took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a rushing touchdown with 12:21 left in the quarter.
The Bulldogs answered late in the quarter on a 25-yard field goal from Dan Lindsay making the score 7-3 with 1:32 left in the quarter.
On the next drive, Kam'Ron Robinson picked up a fumble and raced in from 45 yards out. Lindsay's extra point put the Bulldogs up 10-7 with 47 seconds left in the first.
The Lions retook the lead at 14-10 with 14:23 left in the second on a rushing touchdown and PAT. The Lions increased the lead to 21-10 on a passing touchdown and extra point with 10:20 to play in the second.
Holmes' Easton Sartin scored from two yards out with 6:28. The extra point was no good, and East led 21-16.
The Bulldogs retook the lead at 22-21 with 2:24 left when Chase Richardson found Jamarius Grayer on a 30-yard touchdown pass. The extra point was no good.
The Lions scored with 12 seconds to go in the first on a passing touchdown and two-point conversion and led 29-22 at halftime.
East Mississippi scored early in the third on a rushing touchdown and extra point to go up 36-22.
Holmes answered as Richardson found Cam Joseph from 24 yards out. The extra point was good, and East led 36-29.
Early in the fourth, Richardson struck again finding D.J. Welch from 33 yards out. The extra point was good, and the game was tied at 36.
The Lions went back up 43-36 with 10:12 left in the game when the Lion scored on a rushing touchdown and PAT.
Lindsay added a field goal with 8:49 to play from 28 yards making the score 43-39 East Mississippi.
The Lions scored on a rushing touchdown with 48 seconds to play to end the scoring at 50-39.
Richardson finished the game 39-of-62 for 482 yards and three touchdowns. Grayer and Joseph each led in receiving with 74 yards. Grayer had four catches while Joseph had eight. B.J. Johnson had six catches for 68 yards, Welch had five catches for 62 yards, Jekerious Williams had six catches for 61 yards, KrisJeohn Burks had three catches for 58 yards, and Tristin Purnell had two catches for 50 yards.
Kebian Gilmore led with the Bulldogs with 13 tackles while E.J. Segrest had seven, Jeremy Atkins had six and Kendrick Davis, Tyricco Henderson and L.J. Reynolds had five each.
