Bulldogs fall in season opener to Southwest
GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs dropped their MACCC opener here Thursday night to the Southwest Mississippi Community College Bears, 34-6.
The Bulldogs are on the road Thursday night at Copiah-Lincoln Community College at 6:30 p.m. Listen live on the Bulldog Radio Network.
Southwest got on the scoreboard with 11 seconds left in the first quarter on a touchdown run. The PAT was good, and the Bears led 7-0.
The Bears added a field goal with 1:45 left before halftime to take a 10-0 lead at halftime.
The Bears increased the lead to 17-0 with 13:23 left in the third on a rushing touchdown. The PAT made it 17-0. They added another rushing touchdown with 1:25 left in the quarter on a rushing touchdown. the PAT made it 24-0.
Southwest added another score early in the fourth on a passing touchdown. The PAT made it 31-0 with 9:39 left in the game.
The Bulldogs only score of the game came with 7:19 left in the game when Cole McCarty found Cayden Burger in the left corner of the endzone for the touchdown. The PAT was blocked by the Bears.
Southwest's final points came with 4:40 to play on a field goal to end all scoring.
Chase Richardson finished 15-of-25 for 89 yards while McCarty was 5-of-10 for 79 yards and a touchdown. Dalyn Jackson led the Bulldogs in receiving with 80 yards on four catches. Eddie Holly was credited with 12 tackles while Ja'Marion Bennett and E.J. Segrest each had eight and Kam'Ron Robinson had seven.
