Devine joins Bulldogs football coaching staff as defensive line assistant coach

Vaiden native Alex Devine has joined the Bulldogs football coaching staff as a defensive line assistant coach.

Devine graduated from Winona High School and played football for the Tigers and was named All-District in 2009 and 2010. After Winona, he played offensive line for the Mississippi Delta Community College Trojans for two seasons.

After graduating with an associate of arts degree from Delta, he transferred to Mississippi State University and received a bachelor's degree in sports studies and began his coaching career at Mississippi State serving as a student assistant for three years under Dan Mullen.

In 2016, he became a graduate assistant at the University of Miami under Manny Diaz and moved his way up to assistant director of player development during the 2019-20 season before moving on to Utah State. He received a master's degree in liberal studies from Miami.

After Miami, he worked at Utah State for two seasons. He was the defensive front specialist in 2021 and the defensive line coach in 2022.

Devine has won one conference championship so far. Utah State won the Mountain West Conference in 2021.

He has coached in eight bowl games including: Utah State, 2021 LA Bowl; Miami, 2020 Cheez-It Bowl, 2019 Independence Bowl and 2018 Pinstripe Bowl, 2017 Orange Bowl and 2016 Russell Athletic Bowl; and Mississippi State, 2015 Belk Bowl and 2014 Orange Bowl.
