Bulldogs fall to Indians, 35-28

FULTON --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs fell here Thursday to the Itawamba Community College Indians, 35-28.

With the loss, the Bulldogs fell to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the North Division. Holmes will play Mississippi Delta Community College on the Goodman Campus at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard late in the first quarter when Luke Moffett nailed a 22-yard field goal to give Holmes the 3-0 lead.

The lead increased to 10-0 when NyJal Johnson connected with A.J. Davis IV on a six yard touchdown with 7:30 left in the second. Will Carter nailed the extra point.

Itawamba answered the Bulldog scores with two of their own. Itawamba scored on passing touchdowns with 7:01 left in the quarter and 3:03 left in the quarter and nailed the extra points to lead 14-10 at halftime.

The Indians then scored with 11:07 left in the third on a rushing touchdown and extra point to lead 21-10. Itawamba then returned a punt for a touchdown with 3:32 left in the quarter to lead 28-10 after three quarters.

The Bulldogs opened the fourth quarter with a nine-yard touchdown pass to Davis with 13:12 left in the game. Carter's extra point was good, and Itawamba led 28-17.

Holmes cut it to 28-25 with 6:05 left to play when Johnson connected with Kerrick Ross on a 54-yard touchdown pass. Johnson then threw to Jarvis Rush on the two-point play.

The Indians answered quickly to end their scoring at 35 on a passing touchdown. The extra point was good.

The Bulldogs moved down to nail another 22-yard field from Moffett make it 35-28 with 26 seconds left.

Holmes couldn't complete the onside kick, and the Indians ran the clock out.

Johnson finished 51-of-84 for 412 yards and three touchdowns. Davis had 10 catches for 125 yards while Ross had five catches for 80 yards, and Shack had 11 catches for 77 yards.

Reid Pulliam had eight tackles including five solos and three assists. Breon Jordan had seven tackles with two tackles for loss. Ja'Nyus Morgan had six tackles with two tackles for loss. Miguel Evans, Maxton Woodward and Commondre Cole each had tackles for loss while Woodward and Cole added a sack. Quintin Talley and Laterrance Cassels each had one interception.
