No. 15 Bulldogs fall to No. Rangers, 27-12

SENATOBIA --- The No. 15 Holmes Community College Bulldogs saw its six-game winning streak dating back to last season come to an end here Thursday night with a 27-12 North Division loss to No. 2 Northwest Mississippi Community College.

The Rangers took the opening kickoff and drove down the field and put a field goal on the board with 12:48 left in the first quarter.

Northwest added another score later in the quarter on a touchdown pass. The extra point put the Rangers up 10-0 with 3:41 left in the first quarter.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard in the second quarter when Dejerric Bryant found D.J. Montgomery across the middle for a 55 yard touchdown pass. Caleb Shelly's extra point was no good, and Holmes trailed 10-6 with 9:58 left in the first half.

Northwest added two more scores before the first half ended on a touchdown pass and run. Both extra points ended the first-half scoring at 24-6.

The Rangers scored their final points of the game with 7:37 left in the third quarter on a field goal.

Holmes' final score of the game came with 14:06 left in the game when Treviante McDaniel scored from three yards out. The try for two failed when Bryant tried to find LaDarius Dunn in the back of the endzone.

Antavius Moody led the Bulldogs with 81 yards on six carries. Bryant finished the game 8-of-21 for 201 yards and one touchdown. Montgomery led the Bulldogs with four catches for 110 yards and a touchdown. Moody had three catches for 64 yards.

Jamar Smith led the Bulldogs with 10 tackles including a blocked field goal. Buddy Benson, Darron Temple and Qmond Woods each had nine tackles. Temple had one tackle for loss. Desmond Lester had seven tackles with one sack and TFL while Vada King, Dante Wigley and Anthony Walker each had six tackles. King had four TFLs.
