Twelve Bulldogs receive postseason honors

Twelve members of the Holmes Community College Bulldog Football team have been recognized by the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges for their play during the 2014 football season.

Traver Jung of Greenville and Lyndon Johnson of West Point were the only Bulldog players named First Team All-State. Jung was also named to the All-Region Team. Jung finished the season with 34 tackles, three sacks and three tackles for loss. He also had two interceptions, six passes broken up and two blocked kicks. Johnson had 30 tackles with six sacks and nine tackles for loss.

Second teamers included Ryhean McMorris of Columbia, defense; Jamario Benson of Crystal Springs, offense; Mitchell Cunningham of Pontotoc, offense; David Hendershot of Forest, offense; and Tripp Janssen of Ackerman, offense. Honorable mention members included: Antreon Bennett of West Point, defense; Mohamed Camara of Cumming, Ga., defense; Jamal Veazey of East Jefferson, La., defense; Dre Massey of Mauldin, S.C., offense; and Aquindus Henson of McComb, offense.

McMorris finished the season with 37 tackles with one tackle for loss, two interceptions and three passes broken up. Benson had 474 yards on 153 carries with three touchdowns while Cunningham led the Bulldogs with 679 rushing yards on 112 carries with seven touchdowns. Bennett tied for the lead in tackles with 51. He had two sacks and six tackles for loss. Camara had 49 tackles with four sacks and 6.5 tackles for loss and three pass break ups. Veazey also had 49 tackles with two interceptions and four passes broken up. Massey had 503 rushing yards on 41 carries with four touchdowns while Henson had 334 yards on 60 carries and six touchdowns.
