Bulldogs fall to Warriors; face Jones today in Region Tournament

DECATUR  --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs fell here Tuesday in the Region 23 Tournament to East Central Community College, 8-5.

Holmes fell to 34-19 overall and will face the No. 3 seeded Jones Bobcats at 2 p.m. today at East Central. Jones fell to Co-Lin on Monday, 13-6.

Against East Central on Tuesday, the Bulldogs got on the scoreboard first when Hunter Azemar launched a solo homerun over the left field wall to put the Bulldogs up 1-0.

Holton Hartzog got the start for the Bulldogs but gave way to Brenden Skirtech, who went seven innings giving up two runs on five hits with nine strikeouts and three walks, in the second inning. The Warriors answered with four runs in the bottom of the first inning.

The Bulldogs answered with two runs in the top of the second when an Amari Conley single scored Jacob Lott, who singled, and Will McClure, who walked, to make the score 4-3 before the Warriors scored two more runs in the second to make the score 6-3 after two. Holmes was unable to score in the third before East Central added another to lead 7-3 after three innings.

Holmes scored two runs in the sixth when Thomas Kuhn scored on a fielder's choice from McClure. Lott later scored on a wild pitch to make the score 7-5 at that point.

East Central scored in the sixth to end all scoring.

Lott had two hits for the Bulldogs in the game, and Azemar had the only multiple base hit for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs and Bobcats split two games during the season. Jones took the first game, 4-3, while the Bulldogs won the second game, 17-6.
