Bulldogs split North Division opener versus Northeast; record stands at 9-8 overall
BOONEVILLE --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs split their North Division openers here Tuesday versus Northeast Mississippi Community College and went to 9-8 overall. Holmes on game one 6-1 and lost game two, 6-1.
Holmes hosts Mississippi Delta on Saturday at 3 p.m. in a North Division doubleheader. The games can be watched live at holmesathletics.ihigh.com.
Steven Blanchard picked up the in the win in game one pitching 5 2/3 innings giving up three hits and striking out five. Payden Lynch, Jaylan Bledsoe and Cole McBride each had multiple hits with Bledsoe adding a double. LaDerick Williams, Josh Crowder and David McAdory each had a hit in game one.
In game two, Brennan Marque suffered the loss. LaDerick Williams, Tal Tucker and Josh Crowder each had a hit in game two.
Against Henry Ford last Saturday, the Bulldogs split losing game one 8-6 and winning game two, 13-3.
In game one, Manning James suffered the loss. McBride and Chris Steverson each led the Bulldogs with three hits with Steverson having two doubles. Taylor had two hits including a triple.
In game two, Jared Bailey picked up the win pitching 2/3 inning giving up one run on one hit striking out two. Taylor led the Bulldogs with three hits inlcuding a homerun while McBride and Crowder had two each. Tucker, Blanchard, McAdory and Bledsoe each had one hit with McAdory having a homerun and Bledsoe adding a triple.
Holmes took two of three games from Kellogg on Thursday and Friday. The teams split on Thursday, Holmes won game one, 4-3, and Kellogg won game two, 3-2. The Bulldogs took the nine-inning game on Friday, 5-0.
On Thursday, Brandon Waltman picked up the win in relief of Blanchard. Waltman threw 1/3 inning while Blanchard threw 6 2/3 innings giving up three runs on six hits striking out five and walking two. Bledsoe led the Bulldogs with two hits including a homerun while Taylor, Jason Hursey, Steverson, McAdory and Lynch each had one hit.
In game two on Thursday, Marque suffered the loss in a complete game giving up three runs on five hits striking out four and walking one. McBride, Steverson and Bledsoe each had two hits with Steverson adding a game-winning double in the seventh. Crowder added a hit.
On Friday, Hursey picked up the win and Trey Goff got the save. Hursey pitched 7 2/3 innings gving up no runs on six hits striking out three and walking one. Goff pitched the remaining 1 1/3 innings giving up one hit and striking out three. Crowder, Taylor, Blanchard, McAdory, Shelton, Bledsoe and Lynch each had one hit with Lynch having a two-run homerun and McAdory and Shelton adding doubles.
