Holmes CC releases new logo for athletic teams

Holmes Community College may be turning 100 years old, but this dog still has new tricks. The college's Department of Marketing and Recruiting is proud to release a new logo and branding for its athletic programs.

Holmes' new custom mark was produced in-house and created by multimedia specialist Stephanie Wood. "The new logo is custom to Holmes. We really tried to create something that we could call our own, which is hard when so many schools use a bulldog mascot." Wood said. "We also wanted our look to better appeal to current and future Holmes athletes. The new logo is further evidence of our commitment to our players, coaches, and community."

The white bulldog keeps its familiar grey shading and signature cardinal red collar; however, the new design is more angular, utilizing bold, sharp outlines for greater contrast.

The change includes years of polling coaches and players about what they wanted to see in an athletic brand. Input showed that a forward-facing dog was preferred, with a meaner expression, and a more modern style of illustration.

"We hoped to keep some resemblance to our previous bulldog logo, while bringing it up to date with modern athletic trends" Wood said. "I think he has a determined, more aggressive demeanor, but he's still approachable."

The new logo completes the branding overhaul that has been five years in the making for HCC. A custom typeface was also developed for the Bulldogs, as well as new word marks and a more streamlined color palette of black, white, grey, and cardinal red.

The new appearance complements the numerous renovations and upgrades to Holmes' athletic facilities at their Goodman and Ridgeland Campuses.
