Bulldog sophomore wins USTA/ITA Regional Championship in singles Sept. 20-22

MERIDIAN --- Holmes Community College Bulldog sophomore tennis player Darryl Hale, Jr. took the 2012 USTA/ITA Regional Championship here on Sept. 22 and only losing a single set.

With the victory, Hale is set to play in Mobile in National Tournament in late October.

Hale won the first match on Thursday versus James Jackson of Itawamba, 6-1, 6-2. He then turned around and played another match at 12:30 and defeated Max Gunbin of Hinds, 6-3, 6-1. On Friday morning at 8:30, he defeatd Pil Ki Min of Marion Military Institute, 6-4, 6-2. He then played Sean Robison of Gulf Coast in the semifinals and won 6-1, 3-2 after Robinson retired during the match.

In the finals on Saturday morning, Hale defeated Peter Solomon of Marion Military Institute, 3-6, 6-3, 10-7 to take the title.
