MILLINGTON, Tenn. --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs lost three-of-four games in the Flag City Classic here Friday and Saturday to fall to 3-3 on the season. Holmes fell to Ellsworth twice, 19-4 and 8-2, defeated Danville, Ill., 15-2 and fell to Wabash Valley, Ill, 7-5.
In game one, Ellsworth exploded for 19 runs on 15 hits against three Bulldog pitchers. Rafiel Johnson (1-1) suffered his first loss of the year. Johnson pitched two innings giving up six runs (two earned) on four hits and striking out two. Offensively, the Bulldogs had eight hits in the ballgame. Trennis Grant led the Bulldogs with three hits including his first homerun of the year. Darius Knight, Steven Blanchard, Denzel Goolsby, Brandon Woodland, and Jeffrey Davis each added one hit a piece.
In game two, Wabash Valley broke open a 4-4 game with single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Offensively, the Bulldogs had ten hits in the ballgame. Darius Knight, Trennis Grant, and Danny Alford each had two hits a piece to lead the Bulldogs. Steven Blanchard, Denzel Goolsby, Jacobby Robinson, and Jordan Taylor each added one hit. Tyji Hawkins (0-1) suffered the loss on the mound. Hawkins pitched four innings giving up six runs on seven hits and striking out four. Channing Sanders kept the Bulldogs in the game pitching three innings of relief, giving up one run on three hits and striking out three.
In game three, the Bulldogs exploded for 15 runs on 11 hits. Jacobby Robinson, Trennis Grant, Steven Blanchard, and Derek Bynum led the Bulldogs with two hits a piece. Brandon Woodland, Blake Bowman, and Danny Alford each added one hit. Steven Blanchard (2-0) picked up his second win of the year with a complete game. Blanchard pitched five innings giving up two runs on three hits and striking out four.
In game four, the Bulldogs were limited to just four hits. Trennis Grant, Denzel Goolsby, Blake Bowman, and Danny Alford each had one hit a piece. Jeffrey Davis (0-1) suffered the loss on the mound. Davis pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up six runs on seven hits and striking out one. Blake Bowman kept the Bulldogs in the game pitching 3 2/3 innings in relief, giving up two unearned runs on one hit and striking out five.
Notes: Trennis Grant went 8 for 10 with seven runs scored, five RBIs, and one homerun in the four games
