Lady Bulldogs win North Division opener
GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs opened the 2012-13 North Division campaign with a 51-48 win over the East Mississippi Community College Lady Lions here Thursday.
With the win, the Lady Bulldogs improved to 4-5 on the season. Holmes travels to Mississippi Delta on Monday night at 6 p.m.
East Mississippi jumped out to a 5-0 lead on the Lady Bulldogs with 17:28 left in the first half and held the lead until the 16:20 mark when Dasha Adams hit a three-pointer to put Holmes up 7-5. The lead grew to seven Jessica Miles hit a free throw with 12:47 to play in the half. The Lady Bulldogs' lead went to 10 points at 23-13 when Miles hit a jumper with 2:56 to play in the half. Holmes led 25-20 at halftime.
The Lady Lions battled their way back in the second half when Dajah McCarty tied the game at 31 with 10:28 left in the game. The Lady Lions led by one at 37-36 when Savannah Kimmons made a layup with 6:34 to play. A Tamia Grady layup put the Lady Bulldogs back on top at 40-39 with 5:33 to play in the game. Nockeyia Qualls hit two free throws to put East Mississippi back up 41-40 with 3:45 to go before Holmes took the lead for good on a Denesha Dillard three-pointer on the Lady Bulldog's next possesion down the court.
Miles sealed the game with two free throws late in the contest.
Grady led the Lady Bulldogs with 18 points Miles had 12. Miles led the Lady Bulldogs with nine rebounds.
