Hale claims the No. 1 MACJC Singles State Championship Saturday in Tupelo

TUPELO --- Holmes Community College sophomore tennis player Darryl Hale claimed the No. 1 MACJC Singles Championship here on Saturday morning against Lucas Souza of Itawamba Community College. Hale won 7-5, 6-2 to claim the title.

Hale got to the championship by defeating Northeast's Matt Lorrick 6-0, 6-0 on Thursday and Hinds' Max Gubin 6-2, 6-2 on Friday to get the finals versus Souza.

The men's team finished tied for fourth in the state.

In other singles action, Rami Jamileh defeated Northeast's Andre Ferrell 6-1, 6-1 before falling to Gulf Coast's Sean Robinson 6-2, 6-3, both in No. 2 singles. In No. 3 singles, Chase Black fell to Itawamba's Ambrose Wilson 6-1, 6-3. In No. 4 singles, Connor Wilson fell to Jones County's Caleb Byrd 6-1, 6-2. In No. 5 singles, Mitchell Parkman won his first round match against East Central's Hunter Mayo 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 but fell in the next round to Travis Burdick 6-3, 6-1. In No. 6 singles, Grey Tedford defeated Northeast's Andre Mills 6-2, 6-1 in the first round before falling to Gulf Coast's Grant Bell 6-4, 6-3.

In doubles action, Hale-Black defeated Northwest's Meng-Ferrell 6-1, 6-3 in round one before falling to Gulf Coast's Puyol-Robinson in the next round 6-3, 7-5 in No. 1 doubles. In No. 2 doubles, Jamileh-Wilson defeated Northwest's Cook-Moss 6-1, 6-3 before falling in the next round to Gulf Coast's Puyol-Georgian 6-0, 6-1. In No. 3 doubles, Parkman-Tedford defeated Northwest's Dulin-Moore 6-3, 6-1 in the first round before falling to Gulf Coast's Burdick-Bell 6-1, 6-3 in the next round.
