Bulldogs lose heartbreaker to the Southwest Bears, 87-81

SUMMIT --- The Southwest Mississippi Community College Bears jumped out early on the Holmes Community College Bulldogs but the Bulldogs battled back to within one at halftime, but the Bears took a late lead to pull off the 87-81 win.

With the loss, the Bulldogs fell to 8-3 overall. Holmes will host Coahoma on Monday night at 8 p.m. The game can be watched live at holmesathletics.ihigh.com.

Southwest jumped out to a 22-12 lead early in the contest but the Bulldogs mounted a comeback. Holmes tied the game at 27 and took as much as a three-point lead before Southwest retook the lead at halftime, 45-44. As the horn sounded at halftime, Jarvis Williams launched a shot from just inside half court to pull Holmes within one point.

A Patrick Banks' dunk with 17:25 gave Holmes the first lead of the second half. Southwest then retook the lead and held the lead until 13:21 when Marcus Washington tied the game for Holmes once again. Southwest retook the lead with 10:59 to play and held it until 6:20 to play when Washington tied the game once again at 69. Southwest took the lead again but another Banks dunk with 3:55 tied the game again, this time at 75.

Southwest then took the lead with 2:45 left and held off the Bulldogs from that point.

Tamarico Wilson led the Bulldogs with 16 points while Jarvis Williams and Dayshawn Watkins each had 14. Wilson led the Bulldogs with eight and Banks had seven.
