Bulldogs open the season with a win over Copiah-Lincoln, 79-63

GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs held a 14-point lead here in the first half and increased the lead to 22 points late in the game to pull out a 79-63 season-opining win over the Copiah-Lincoln Wolves here Thursday night.

The Bulldogs host the East Central Warriors on Saturday at 3 p.m. The game can be heard on iHigh at holmesathletics.ihigh.com.

DeAndre Scott set the tone out of the gate for the Bulldogs as he nailed a three-point to put the Bulldogs up 3-0 early. A Tim Harrison free throw tied the game for Co-Lin at the 13:32 mark of the first half. After that it was all Bulldogs as Holmes increased the lead to 42-28 at halftime.

A three-point from Enitial Rucker with 12:58 to play in the game but the Bulldogs up 14 points. Holmes increased the lead to 15 points with 10:44 to play in the game on a layup from Demarcus Lewis. A Kelvin Smith dunk later in the half put the Bulldogs up 58-41. Inside three minutes to play, Daniel Francis made a layup to put Holmes up 70-51 and the lead increased to 22 when Lewis made one of two free throws, and Francis' layup kept it to 22 points at 79-57.

Scott led the Bulldogs with 18 points while Lewis had 17 and Rucker had 16. Rucker and Scott each had four three-pointers in the game. Smith and Lewis finished with six rebounds each.
