Holmes gets 51-49 win over Northeast on Homecoming 2017

GOODMAN --- Holmes Community College sophomore running back Cameryn Brent scored five touchdowns and gained 267 yards on 29 carries in Holmes' 51-49 win over Northeast Mississippi Community College here today on Homecoming 2017.

With Brent's yardage today, he surpassed the 1,000 mark and then eclipsed the 1,200 yard mark and has 1,260 yards on the season. With the win, the Bulldogs went to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the North Division. Holmes travels to Itawamba in the final regular season game of the year next Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

The Tigers got on the scoreboard first in the first quarter on a touchdown pass. The extra point was no good, and Northeast led 6-0 with 11:56 left in the quarter.

Fifteen seconds later, Brent got the Bulldogs on the scoreboard when he broke free from 43 yards out. Connor McKay's extra point put the Bulldogs up 7-6 with 11:41 left in the first.

The Tigers went back up after another passing touchdown. The extra point was good, and Northeast led 13-7 with 5:17 left in the first quarter.

Northeast then went up 20-7 with 12:55 left to play in the second quarter on a rushing touchdown and extra point.

Holmes made the score 20-14 when Brent scored from 10 yards out, and McKay's extra point was good with 10:05 left in the second quarter.

Holmes retook the lead at 21-20 with 8:09 to play in the second quarter when Martavious Adams intercepted the Tigers and raced 54 yards untouched for the touchdown. McKay's kick was good.

The Tigers answered the score with 4:09 left to play when they scored on another passing touchdown. The extra point made it 27-21.

McKay got the Bulldogs three more points as the halftime horn sounded from 45 yards to make the score 27-24 at halftime.

Brent and the Bulldogs came out after halftime and scored two touchdowns in the first four minutes. Brent scored from 19 yards out and 60 yards out. McKay nailed the two extra points to put Holmes up 38-27 with 11:39 left in the third.

The Tigers inched closer with 9:49 left in the third when they scored on another passing touchdown. The extra point made it 38-34 Holmes.

The Bulldogs then stretched the lead to 45-34 with 5:04 left in the third when Brent scored from six yards out. McKay's extra point was good.

The Tigers added another passing touchdown in the third, and the extra point make it 45-41 Holmes with 16 seconds left to play in the third.

The Tigers scored again early in the fourth on a passing touchdown, and they converted the two-point pass to make it 49-45 Northeast with 14:16 left in the game.

The Bulldogs scored their final time with 5:56 left in the game when Rashad Pittman scored from nine yards out. The two-point pass was no good.

The Bulldog defense then held the Tigers late in the fourth, and a fourth down try was no good turning the ball over to the Bulldogs. Holmes then ran the clock out to secure the win.

The Bulldogs rushed for 469 yards in the contest. Pittman finished with 74 yards on four carries while Josh Dodd had 51 yards on six carries, and Sanchez Berry had 45 yards on five carries.

Lorenzo McCaskill finished the game with 15 tackles for the Bulldogs while Vada King and Jaderrius Hooks each had eight with Hooks having two sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss. Brent Price and Adams each had an interception.
