Phillips, Wallace named Holmes CC Players of the Year

GOODMAN --- Sophomore forward Kristen Phillips of the women's soccer team and Cameron Wallace of the men's basketball team have been named the 2024-25 Holmes Community College Players of the Year.

Phillips, a Collinsville native and West Lauderdale graduate, and the Lady Bulldogs made their fifth straight appearance in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament. Holmes knocked off Phoenix and Schoolcraft before falling to MACCC foe Northwest in the semifinals. The Lady Bulldogs finished second in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament.

Following the season, Phillips was named First Team All-MACCC, All-Region 23 and NJCAA Second Team All-American. As a freshman, she was named First Team All-MACCC, All-Region 23 and NJCAA Second Team All-American.

As a sophomore, Phillips led the Lady Bulldogs in points with 56 with 22 goals and 12 assists. As a freshman, she led the Bulldogs with 71 points with 31 goals and 11 assists.

Phillips will play for the University of West Florida next season.

Wallace, a Little Rock, Ark. native and Parkview grad, and the Bulldogs fell in the opening round of the Region 23 Tournament to Mississippi Delta. As a freshman, the Bulldogs made it to the Region 23 semifinals after knocking off East Central and East Mississippi before falling to Jones in the semifinals.

Following this season, Wallace was named First Team All-MACCC, All Region 23 and NJCAA Third Team All-American. As a freshman, he was named First Team All-MACCC and Freshman of the Year and All-Region 23.

As a sophomore, Wallace led the Bulldogs in scoring with 20.4 points per game. He scored 509 points including shooting 56.5 percent from the floor (178-of-315) and 77 percent from the free throw line (147-of-191). He averaged 8.1 rebounds per game. As a freshman, he led the Bulldogs in scoring with 18.5 points per game. He scored 593 points including shooting 57.9 percent from the floor and 70.2 percent from the free throw line. He averaged 7.5 rebounds per game.

Wallace will be play at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock next season.
