Boswell Media, the flagship radio station for Holmes sporting events, received first place for best sports story in the Louisiana-Mississippi Associated Press Broadcasts and Media Editors contest this past weekend in Jackson.
Breck Riley accepted the award during the banquet held at the Two Mississippi Museums in downtown Jackson. Unlike TV and newspaper, which compete in multiple divisions depending on market size (TV) and circulation (newspaper), all radio stations compete in one division, no mater of market size.
Boswell submitted their year recap which included play-by-play highlights from Riley in Holmes' Region XXIII Basketball Championship in March 2018 as well as play-by-play highlights from the voice of the Bulldogs Josh West in the season-opening football game in 2018 that saw the Bulldogs win on a last second field goal as well as a late-game Hail Mary in Holmes' win over Jones. Phillip Palmertree also provided color commentary on the two football games.
"It's a great honor to win this award when you think about all the great radio sports stories from Louisiana and Mississippi in the past year," Boswell Media Sports Director Breck Riley said. "We'd like to thank Holmes Community College and Kosciusko High School for the content and access they provide to our news department and broadcast commentators."
"Holmes and Boswell Media Sports have a long history together," Holmes Associate Athletic Director for External Relations Steve Diffey said. "We are extremely proud of the product they consistently put out for us. Breck did an awesome job in calling the Region XXIII championship game for us, and Josh has been an integral part of Bulldog football for over 10 years now. I am thankful for Boswell Media for including us and our accomplishments in their end of the year recap. It just goes to show you the product they are pushing out to the listeners in central Mississippi and the Kosciusko area."
