Lady Bulldogs recognized with postseason banquet

The Holmes Community College men's and women's MACJC State Soccer Tournament teams were recognized Wednesday night with a postseason banquet in the D.P. "Pat" McGowan Workforce Training Center on the Ridgeland Campus.

The Bulldog soccer team went into the state tournament as the North Division's top team while the Lady Bulldogs came in as the second place team. Both teams tell in the opening round games of the tournament but had great seasons.

Six Bulldogs and five Lady Bulldogs received honors from the MACJC and Region XXIII. For the men's team, they were: All-Region, Wesley Noble and Charlie Hancock; and MACJC All-State, Christian Eslava, Zach Martin, Travis Offield and Drew Pegues. For the women's team, they were: All-Region, Liz Moran and Vanessa Gaytan; and MACJC All-State, Carrie Robinson, Ashley Wilson and Amber Sizemore.

Team awards were given for both men's and women's. Women's team awards went to : Rachel Geissler, Sportsmanship; Daniele Rice, Most Improved; Ashley Wilson, Leadership Award; Carrie Robinson, Playmaker; Vanessa Gaytan, Golden Boot; and Liz Moran, MVP. Men's team awards went to: Kyle Loggins, Sportsmanship; Zach White and Brett Vanderford, Most Improved; Ulysses Vazquez; Christian Eslava, Playmaker; Drew Pegues, Golden Boot; and Wesley Noble, MVP.

Head Coach Matt Convertino also recognized Ashley Wilson and Tyler Catchot for being named Academic All-Americans by the NJCAA. Catchot, who played for the Bulldogs the prior two seasons, now attends Mississippi State and was unable to attend the banquet but his parents attended in his honor.
