Bio
Fall 2017 marks LaTaryl Williams’ sxith season as assistant coach for the Lady Bulldog basketball program.
Prior to coming to Holmes, Williams played professional basketball in both Europe and South America for 10 years. During the 2011 season, Williams suffered a career-ending knee injury with the Leicester Riders. After being injured, he served as assistant coach for the team. While in Europe, he also ran a basketball academy for youth ages 14-18 at Burleigh Community College for four years.
Before going to play professionally, he played two seasons at the University of Mississippi, where he scored 386 points and amassed 156 rebounds. From his junior to senior seasons, he nearly tripled his scoring average from 3.1 to 9.0. His senior season, the Rebels made an appearance in the National Invitation Tournament. He also played on the first Rebel team to win an NCAA Tournament game during the 1998-99 season.
He played two seasons at Northwest Mississippi Community College before going to Ole Miss. At Northwest, he helped lead the Rangers to a record of 57-11. The Rangers made it to the Final Four in Hutchinson, Kansas, in the NJCAA National Tournament. He was named All-State and All-Region in both his freshman and sophomore seasons and named to the All-Region XXIII Tournament Team his sophomore year. He averaged 12.0 points and 4.6 rebounds in his career at Northwest and added 117 assists and 110 steals.
Williams prepped at Oxford High School, where he helped lead the Chargers to the state semi-finals. They also won the district and the North Half. At Oxford, he averaged 23 points, nine rebounds and four steals per game. He was named Class 4A North MVP by The Daily Journal and earned All-State and All-District honors from The Clarion-Ledger. He also played in the 1996 Mississippi High School All-Star Game and was named the game’s Most Valuable Defensive Player.
Williams earned his Bachelor’s in Leisure and Sports Management from Ole Miss and a Master’s in Sports Coaching and Administration from the University of Northern Colorado.
He and his daughter, Lianna, currently reside in Goodman.
