Lady Bulldogs fall in MACJC semis; await word on Region XXIII Tournament

SENATOBIA --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs fell here today to the Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats in the semi-finals of the MACJC State Tournament, 77-53.

The Lady Bulldogs fell to 17-8 on the season and have qualified for the Region XXIII Tournament starting Tuesday at Mississippi College. The seeds and opponents have yet to be determined and are expected to be named on Friday.

The Lady Bobcats jumped out to an early 9-0 lead before the Lady Bulldogs began battling back late in the first quarter. A Nina Carpenter bucket with three minutes left in the first period got the Lady Bulldogs to within three points at 13-10. Nhamia Wilson then hit a three-pointer at the end of the second period to make it 18-15 Jones after one period.

Jones extended the lead to 26-17 with 7:20 to play in the second period and led 44-25 at halftime. Jones led 59-35 after three periods. Both teams scored 18 points in the fourth period.

Kamelia Lacy led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 11 points while Nhamia Wilson had eight and Carpenter had seven while Vaquela Pimpton and Ja'Breonia Veasey each had six.

The Lady Bulldogs shot 30.4 percent from the floor and 60.7 percent from the free-throw line.
