GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs took the Southwest Mississippi Community College Lady Bears to overtime here Thursday night but fell 63-61.
The Lady Bulldogs return to North Division play on Monday night traveling to Clarksdale to play the Coahoma Community College Lady Tigers. Holmes returns home on Thursday night against Itawamba. Thursday's game can be watched live at holmesathletics.ihigh.com.
Southwest held a 6-2 lead in the first half on two free throws from April Levy. Tamia Grady's bucket with 13:13 tied the game at eight. The Lady Bulldogs lead went to nine points at 23-14 with 4:29 to play just before halftime. Southwest then took a one-point lead going into halftime at 24-23.
The Lady Bears increased their lead to 10 points at 35-25 with 15 minutes to play in the game before the Lady Bulldogs began fighting their way back. A Denesha Dillard three-pointer gave the Lady Bulldogs a 36-35 lead with 11 minutes to play.
The teams battled for the remainer of the second half. Krystal Baker hit a free throw with less than a minute to tie the game at 53. Jessica Miles had a chance to win the game at the buzzer for the Lady Bulldogs but it was no good.
The Lady Bears outscored Holmes 10-8 in overtime to pull out the win.
Dillard finished the game with six three-pointers and 18 points while Grady had 14 points.
Against Hinds on Monday night in Utica, the Lady Bulldogs 58-49. Grady led with 18 points while Miles had 12 and Dasha Adams had 10. Miles had 13 rebounds.
