Lady Bulldogs complete sweep of Mississippi Delta winning 61-56

MOORHEAD --- After a dismal 12.5 percent shooting in the first half, the Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs fought their way back in the second half to shoot 48.6 percent to pull out a six-point win at 61-56.

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs went to 15-4 overall and 8-2 in the North Division. The Lady Bulldogs host Northwest Thursday in the final home regular season game at 6 p.m. The game can be watched online at holmesathletics.ihigh.com.

Delta led 25-15 after jumping out to an early lead over the Lady Bulldogs. Two free throws by Louise Collins with 14:19 to play brought the Lady Bulldogs to within eight on 33-25. Dierra Gilmore took a defensive rebound and raced all the way down the court for a layup with 8:45 to play in the game to pull the Lady Bulldogs with two at 38-36. Jacquonna Young later tied the game at 38 with 8:35 to play.

The lead swapped back many times before Delta held their final lead at 56-54 with 1:20 to play. Dierra Gilmore hit a three-pointer with 25 seconds to play to put the Lady Bulldogs up for good at 57-56. She then added two more free throws before Kierra Gilmore added two free throws to end the scoring at 61-56.

Louise Collins and Amber Clay each led the Lady Bulldogs with 16 points. Collins led with nine rebounds while Kierra Anderson and Kia Funchess each had had six.
