Andrews takes reins of Lady Bulldog basketball program

While playing for Louisiana State University and the University of Alabama, Jamilah Johns Andrews faced Ron Aldy’s Ole Miss Lady Rebels many times on the hardwood. Beginning in the 2008-09 basketball season, Andrews joined the Holmes Community College Lady Bulldog basketball program as assistant coach. After four years, Aldy announced his retirement, and Andrews has been named head coach of the Lady Bulldogs.

In the 11 seasons Holmes Head Coach Ron Aldy coached at Holmes Community College, the women’s basketball team made seven postseason appearances with one of them in 1992 resulting in a dramatic 34-1 record which included a MACJC state title, a Region XXIII title and a fifth place finish in the NJCAA tournament finishing with a No. 3 national ranking. He finished with a 156-126 record at Holmes.
Kierra Gilmore named MVP in the All Star Game

DECATUR --- Holmes Community College Lady Bulldog sophomore Kierra Gilmore took the top honor in Tuesday night's MACJC All Star Game at East Central Community College by being named the Most Valuable Player for her 14 points and seven rebound performance.

CLINTON --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs battled hard all afternoon long with North Division foe the Itawamba Community College Lady Indians tying the game several times insdie the last 10 minutes but couldn't pull out the win as Itawamba advanced to the Region finals with a 62-53 win.

FULTON --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs went on a 13-0 run to open the second half here Tuesday afternoon to go up 51-40, but it wasn’t enough as the Jones County Junior College took the lead again with 1:40 to play to pull off a 64-61 win in the opening round of the MACJC State Tournament being held at Itawamba Community College.
