Casey served Holmes as head coach for 12 years before his retirement. He made All-State in basketball after his sophomore season in 1974. He was a member of the MACJC state championship track team in 1973 and was state champion in the mile run his sophomore season. He was named Most Athletic at Holmes in 1974.
After Holmes, Casey attended Millsaps College, where he lettered in basketball two years and was chosen most valuable player in 1976 and 1977. Casey graduated from Mississippi State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Math Education.
Casey’s first coaching job was at Durant High School, where he coached men’s and women’s basketball. While at Durant, he was E.C.A.C. Coach of the Year four times. Then Casey went to Saks High School in Anniston, Ala., where he coached boys’ basketball for three years. He was Anniston Star/Calhoun County Coach of the Year in 1989.
Switching sports, he then coached football at his alma mater, Ethel High School. Following his tenure at Ethel, it was on to Union High School, where he coached men’s basketball and fast-pitch softball. In 2003, he was named the Mississippi Association of Coaches All-Star Coach in softball.
