Lady Bulldogs split with Lady Rangers; improve to 2-4 in the North
GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs picked up their second North Division win of the season here Saturday but it took Holmes 10 innings to pull out the 3-2 victory over the Northwest Mississippi Community College Lady Rangers.
Northwest won game one, 4-0, before Holmes battled back in game two. In game two, Michelle Gregory singled home Keana Wash from third base. In extra innings, Wash began the 10th on second base. Karina Brown sacrificed her to third before Gregory knocked her in for the win.
Kelsey Marter started game two for the Lady Bulldogs and pitched four innings before giving way to Katie Johnson in the fifth. Johnston picked up the win in six innings of work. Charneissa Gordon led the Lady Bulldogs with two hits while Gregory, Samantha Meadows, Katherine Pennington, Victoria Hunt and Wash each had a hit with Wash's hit beind a double.
In game one, Marter suffered the loss. She pitched six innings giving up four runs on six hits, two strikeouts and two walks. Kelsey Rogers pitched the seventh. Brown, Gordon, Meadows, Lauren Tharp and Pennington each had hits in the game with Gordon's hit being a double.
Holmes travels to Delta on Wednesday for a doubleheader at 1 p.m. before hosting Coahoma on Saturday in a doubleheader at noon.
