Lady Bulldogs prepare for Feb. 2 season opener

Five players return from the 2012 Holmes Community College Lady Bulldog softball team to this year's 2013 team leaving the door open for a lot of newcomers to the team.

Returners include infielder Kaitlyn Hicks (Kosciusko), infielder Alecia McDaniel (Newport), pitcher Kelsey Marter (Grenada), infielder Victoria Hunt (Maurepas, La.) and catcher Lauren Tharp (Kosciusko).

Joining the pitching staff will be Sara Grace Gunter (Pensacola, Fla.), Katie Johnston (Winnsboro, La.) and Kelsey Rogers (Rose Hill).

Catchers are Kayla Atkison (Carthage), Jadie Laufenberg (Houston) and Katherine Pennington (Covington, La.). Atkison is listed also as an outfielder while Laufenberg is listed as an infielder.

Infielders include Charneissa Gordon (Summit), Samantha Meadows (Mize) and Ashtin Sloan (Hattiesburg).

Outfielders are Sarah Bowles (Ackerman), Karina Brown (Ackerman), Michelle Gregory (Pontotoc), Keana Wash (Forest) and Amberly Young (Forest).

The Lady Bulldogs open the season at home on Feb. 2 versus Marion Military Institute.
