RIDGELAND -- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs defeated the Meridian Community College Eagles on "Sophomore Day" here Friday to go to 11-3 overall.
Holmes took the lead in the 41st minute when James Cockrell scored on a Jonathan Brown assist to go up 1-0 in the match. James Oliver scored in the 60th minute on another Brown assist to go up 2-0 before Cockrell finished the scoring at 3-0 in the 74th minute on a Kin Mullins assist.
Holmes has already secured a playoff spot in the weekend's MACJC State Tournament at Pearl River Community College but now wait until today to see if they are North Division Champions or not. The North champ will play the South No. 2, which is the Jones Bobcats. The North No. 2 will play the South No. 1, Pearl River.
The Bulldogs travel to Hinds Community College on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the last North Division contest of the season.
