Bio

Hugh Shurden began his affiiation with Holmes Community College as a member of the 1967 and 1968 football squads.  As a sophomore, Shurden earned team co-captain honors and was selected All-State as an offensive lineman.  He was also selected to play in the Junior College All-Star game under the legendary "Bull" Sullivan, who was head football coach at East Mississippi.


A Mathiston native, Shurden coached high school ball in his hometown, as a well as at Sturgis, before coming to Holmes where he served as an assistant football coach for 13 years before being named to the head coach position. 

Both Mississippi State graduates, Shurden and his wife Barbara reside in Kosciusko.  Barbara is a related studies / vo-tech instructor for Holmes. The Shurdens have two daughters, Brittany and Mandy Burnham.
